A Europe-wide ban on biomedical experiments using apes or wild-caught monkeys is the immediate target at the moment. Although Written Declaration 40/ 2007 has passed the hurdle of acquiring sufficient signatures, there are many stages for it still to go before firm legislation can be voted on, and pressure has to be maintained on MEPs particularly on any who sit on the Environment Committee. You can find who your MEPs are, and on what committees they sit, by going to www.europarl.org.uk on the web or by calling your local library, or you can telephone the enquiries office of the European Parliament on 0207 227 4300.
